Automatic gravity-fed watering for larger plants, no power needed
The AutoPot XL System is a gravity-fed automatic watering system built around AutoPot's Aqua Valve – the current AQUAvalve5, one per tray – sized with larger 25 litre XL pots for bigger plants and longer runs between top-ups. The valve meters exactly how much nutrient solution each pot draws, so plants water themselves as the medium dries out. It works equally well as a hydroponic system or with soil and coco, and because everything runs on gravity there are no pumps, timers or mains water to plumb in, cutting running costs and the risk of over- or under-feeding when you cannot be there every day.
Each XL module sits on a round-based tray, so it can be turned, moved or taken out without upsetting the rest of the system – handy for spacing plants out under the light as they fill out. The 25 litre pot gives enough root room to grow a large plant through to the end without potting on. Systems run from a single pot to 100, supplied with AutoPot's matched reservoir or, from 6 pots up, as No Tank builds for growers who already have one.

How to Use
- Root control: place the round XL root control disc in the base of the pot, gold face down
- Growing medium: AutoPot recommend roughly 50% perlite or pH-stable clay pebbles with soil or coco, over a 2.5 cm drainage layer
- Pot up established plants at least 30 cm tall, water each pot through outside the tray, let it drain for 15 minutes and wipe the base clean
- Set the tank higher than the pots so gravity can feed the system
- Reservoir height: the outlet should sit at least 15 cm above the highest AQUAvalve
- Connect the supply pipework to each Aqua Valve and fill the tank with prepared nutrient solution
- Check the valves seat and prime correctly on first fill
- Once running, each pot draws solution as it dries - just keep the tank topped up
- Let roots establish: leave the system off for 10–14 days after potting up, then open the tap
- Top up when about a third of the solution is left – close the tap, refill, wait 30–60 minutes for sediment to settle, then reopen. Never let the reservoir run dry
- Keep the lines clear: check the filter weekly and, when feeding mineral nutrients, open the end-of-line taps into a bucket for 30–60 seconds once a week. Aim for 18–21°C in the reservoir and a pH of 5.8 in soil or 5.5–5.6 in coco

Frequently Asked Questions
Which reservoir comes with each size?
With Tank systems of 1 to 4 pots include AutoPot's 47 litre rigid tank with lid; 6 to 9 pots come with a 100L FlexiTank, 12 and 16 pots with a 225L FlexiTank, 24 to 60 pots with a 400L FlexiTank and 80 or 100 pots with a 750L FlexiTank. No Tank is the same kit without the reservoir, for growers who already have one.
How long should I wait before switching on?
AutoPot's potting guide gives 10–14 days for the 25 litre XL pot. Water the pots through once before they go into the trays, then let the roots grow out before opening the tap – if a pot still feels heavy, give it longer.
Can I use fabric pots in the XL trays?
Yes – the XL tray also takes AutoPot's 20 litre fabric FlexiPot, which is how the XL FlexiPot system is built. Fit a round PotSock on the base of a fabric pot for root control.
Can I feed organic nutrients?
With AQUAvalve5 and 9mm pipework, yes. AutoPot recommend a small water pump in the reservoir running about 15 minutes every 2 hours, and cleaning the tank, pump and filter each time it runs low.
