Description

Stop fungus gnat larvae before they eat young roots

CX Horticulture Tanlin, also sold as NilNat, is a biological control for sciarid fly (fungus gnat) larvae. Instead of a chemical pesticide it uses microscopic crystals that the maggots eat; the crystals swell inside the gut and perforate the wall, killing the larva. It is odour-free, leaves no residue or taste, and can be used at every stage right through to harvest.

Key Benefits

  • Biological mode of action that kills larvae mechanically, so gnats cannot build resistance
  • Targets the larvae in the medium, breaking the breeding cycle rather than just swatting adults
  • Odour-free and residue-free, with no taint left on the finished crop
  • Safe at every stage, from propagation through to the day of harvest
  • Highly economical, dosed at just 1ml (about 40 drops) per 100L as a preventative
  • Works in soil, coco and hydro, mixed straight into feed water

Fungus gnat maggots feeding on fine roots

Fungus gnat larvae chew through fine root hairs and organic matter in the top of the medium, showing up as stalled growth, weak roots and poor uptake, especially in seedlings and cuttings. A single female can lay up to 200 eggs a day in warm conditions, so hitting the larval stage in the medium is the only way to break the cycle.

How to Use

  • Prevention (all media): 1ml (approx 40 drops) per 100L of feed water, applied as part of normal watering
  • Active infestation, soil/coco: 1 drop per 2L, saturating the whole medium, repeated over 3-7 days as it dries between waterings
  • Active infestation, hydro: dose the reservoir at 1ml per 100L and ensure the entire system is treated
  • Tip: pair with yellow sticky traps to monitor adult numbers and confirm the larvae are clearing
