HPS, CDM and CFL grow bulbs

Bulbs are consumables — HPS and CDM lamps lose output gradually even before they blow, and most growers replace them every one to two grows to keep yields up. Keeping a spare in stock means a dead bulb mid-flower doesn't cost you a week's growth.

Choosing the right bulb

Match wattage to your ballast exactly — a 600W bulb needs a 600W-rated ballast, not a step down from 1000W. Dual-spectrum bulbs like the Sylvania Grolux or Omega Dual Spectrum are the simplest choice if you want one bulb for the whole grow; single-spectrum HPS or CDM lamps suit growers chasing a specific look in flower.
