Irrigation pumps for feeding, draining and recirculating
Where an air pump oxygenates standing water, an irrigation pump moves it: feeding drippers, draining a flood tray, or recirculating a reservoir. The NEWA Maxi-Jet Pump (from £24.95) is the smaller, quieter option for single-tank feed or return lines, while the AquaKing Submersible Sump Pump (from £54.95) has the flow rate to shift larger volumes fast, which is what you want when draining a big reservoir quickly rather than waiting it out.
Matching flow rate to the job
Check litres-per-hour rather than wattage when comparing pumps. A pump rated to move your tank's total volume roughly every hour is a sensible baseline for recirculating systems, more for fast drain-downs. Both pumps here are fully submersible, so they sit inside the tank rather than needing external plumbing. Pair one with pipe sized to the pump's outlet and a tank from tanks & reservoirs if you are building a system from scratch, or see deep water culture for pump-fed RDWC setups that need constant circulation between sites.
