The full range
Carbon filters for grow tents and rooms
A carbon filter takes the smell out of the air before it leaves the tent. It hangs inside, first in the chain, with the extractor fan pulling air through it, so everything that leaves has passed through the carbon. If a tent still smells with a good fan running, the filter is usually too small or too old.
The range runs from 4" (100mm) to 14" (355mm). RAM AirTECH LITE and Rhino Hobby are sensible first filters for 4" to 8" tents. Rhino Pro, Phresh Professional, Mammoth and the CarboAir 50 and 60 carry deeper carbon beds for longer life. For big rooms, Can-Lite, Can-Lite XL, Fox Pro and the CarboAir 75 and 100 run from 10" to 14", with the largest sizes rated past 3,000 m³/h. The Can FV Filterbox and AC Infinity Duct Air Filter Box do the opposite job, cleaning dust out of the air coming in.
Matching a filter to your fan
Check two things. The filter's flange should match the fan's diameter, 6" to a 6" fan, with no reducer in between. And its rated airflow should be at or above the fan's, because a filter that cannot pass the air chokes the fan, makes it louder and lets smell through. Many come in a short and a long body on the same flange; the longer one holds more carbon and lasts longer. A pre-filter sleeve (Rhino and Can-Lite both make one) keeps dust off the carbon.
