The pre-filter sleeve is the fabric jacket that wraps the outside of a Can-Lite carbon filter. It catches dust, leaf debris and airborne particulates before they ever reach the carbon bed, and it is the single cheapest thing a grower can do to protect a filter that costs many times more.

Carbon works by adsorption across an enormous internal surface area. Once that surface is blinded by dust it stops binding odour molecules — and no amount of running time brings it back. A clogged pre-filter is reversible; a clogged carbon bed is not.

Losing Extraction and Blaming the Fan
