Description

The rooting gel serious propagators reach for first

Clonex Rooting Gel from Growth Technology is a ready-to-use, hormone-rich gel that seals the cut stem of a cutting and delivers a concentrated dose of the rooting hormone IBA (indole-3-butyric acid) exactly where new roots form. Cuttings taken without hormone support often callus slowly, stall for weeks or rot before striking, and this gel removes much of that risk. Its thick, tacky consistency clings to the stem, sealing the wound tissue against air and infection while supplying the vitamins and trace elements a cutting needs before it has roots of its own.

Key Benefits

  • Contains IBA rooting hormone to trigger fast, even root initiation at the cut site
  • Ready-to-use gel that clings to the stem and seals the wound rather than running off like a liquid dip
  • Roots typically in 1-2 weeks across most species, from soft herbaceous cuttings to woodier stems
  • Feeds the cutting with vitamins and trace elements before it can take up nutrients itself
  • Pairs with Clonex Mist for a complete strike-to-root propagation routine

Slow or failed rooting in cuttings?

A shortage of rooting hormone at the cut is the main reason cuttings sit still instead of striking, and a poor start there carries through as weak roots and sluggish growth once potted on. Coating the fresh cut in gel gives an immediate, localised hormone supply, so roots form sooner and more uniformly.

How to Use

  • Take a clean, sharp cutting and dip the cut end into the gel to your chosen depth
  • Decant a little into a separate pot and dip from that to avoid contaminating the main container - never double-dip
  • Insert into pre-moistened rooting medium, mist, and place in a propagator or a warm, humid environment
  • Keep the gel refrigerated between uses to preserve shelf life

Questions & answers

How do I use it?

Dip the fresh cut end of a clean, sharp cutting into the gel, then insert it into pre-moistened rooting medium. Mist it and place it in a propagator or a warm, humid spot.

Can I dip straight from the pot?

It's better not to. Decant a little into a separate pot and dip from that, and never double-dip, so the main container stays clean.

How long do cuttings take to root?

Typically 1 to 2 weeks across most species, from soft herbaceous cuttings to woodier stems.

How should I store it?

Keep the gel in the fridge between uses to preserve its shelf life.

What's the active ingredient?

The rooting hormone IBA (indole-3-butyric acid), in a thick gel that clings to the stem and also supplies vitamins and trace elements.
