Description

Hold a reservoir of up to 130 litres at 18-20C, whatever the room is doing

The Hailea HC-130A is a compact water chiller from Hailea's HC-A series, sized for nutrient reservoirs up to 130 litres in DWC, RDWC, NFT, drip and flood-and-drain systems. A 1/15 HP compressor drawing about 180W in operation pulls heat out of the solution through a corrosion-resistant pure titanium evaporator, and a digital microcomputer thermostat holds any setpoint between 6C and 30C, remembering it after a power cut. Warm reservoirs carry less dissolved oxygen and invite root disease; a chiller is the fix that works when a LED or HID room heats the tank faster than the air can cool it.

Key Benefits

  • Sized for tanks up to 130L with a recommended circulation flow of 200-1,000 L/h
  • Pure titanium evaporator - corrosion-proof in fresh or salt water, so nutrient solution never touches copper
  • Digital thermostat with memory - set it once; it resumes the setpoint after a power interruption
  • Compressor protection cuts power automatically on over-current to stop motor burnout
  • R134a refrigerant, low noise, digital display
  • Compact steel and ABS cabinet at 338 x 218 x 325mm

Warm reservoirs, low dissolved oxygen and sluggish roots

Once nutrient solution climbs past about 22C it holds markedly less dissolved oxygen, roots slow down and pythium and root rot get their opening. Air conditioning the room is the expensive route; chilling the tank directly is cheaper to run and keeps the root zone in the 18-20C band that hydroponic crops want, independent of the air temperature under the lights.

How to Use

  • Stand the chiller on a flat surface with clear space around the vents; it rejects heat into the room, so ventilate the area.
  • Add a pump and pipework - neither is included. Pair with a pump delivering 200-1,000 L/h such as the Hailea HX8810, on 12-16mm hose.
  • Circulate water through the chiller first, then switch it on; never run it dry.
  • Set the target, typically 18-20C for hydroponics; the display reads in 0.1C steps.
  • Clean the filter and condenser regularly to keep cooling efficient.
