Ionic pH Buffer 7 is a fixed-value solution held precisely at pH 7.00, the neutral midpoint used alongside pH Buffer 4 for a proper two-point calibration. A single-point check only tells you a meter is accurate at one end of the scale; testing against both 4.00 and 7.00 confirms the whole working range your meter actually operates in during feeding.
Mineral deposits and general ageing on the probe's sensing glass cause slow drift that's easy to miss until a feed starts reading wrong. Keeping a bottle of Buffer 7 on the shelf next to Buffer 4 makes proper calibration a five-minute job rather than something that gets put off, and a meter that's out of calibration can silently push an entire nutrient schedule in the wrong direction.
