Description
A watertight seal wherever pipe leaves a tank, tray or bucket
The Antelco Top Hat Grommet is a flexible, flanged rubber seal that pushes into a drilled hole in a reservoir, tank, tray, bucket or lid and grips the barbed fitting or irrigation pipe pushed through it. The result is a watertight, tool-free outlet with no glue, sealant or back nut – the standard way to take a feed, drain or return line out of a DIY deep water culture, flood and drain or drip reservoir. Choose the 13mm size for 13mm fittings and pipe, or the 19mm size for 19mm.
Key Benefits
- Watertight without sealant – the grommet compresses between the container wall and the fitting.
- Top hat flange – the lip stops it being pushed through the hole and spreads the load on thin plastic walls.
- Seals on curves – flexible enough for round buckets as well as flat-sided tanks.
- Removable – pull the fitting out to clean the tank or change the layout; an undamaged grommet can be reused.
- Two sizes – 13mm and 19mm to match the common irrigation pipe and fitting sizes.
- Made by Antelco – Australian micro irrigation manufacturer since 1985.
Leaks at the Reservoir Outlet
A slow drip where a pipe leaves the reservoir wastes nutrient solution, soaks the floor of the tent and raises grow room humidity. In a recirculating system it can drain the tank low enough to leave roots dry. Silicone and tape rarely last on flexible plastic; a correctly sized grommet in a clean hole seals tight for the life of the system, keeping the reservoir level steady and plants growing evenly.
How to Use
- Measure: check the grommet body and drill a test hole in an offcut first – it should be a snug push fit, not loose.
- Drill: use a hole saw or step drill and remove any burr so the edge cannot cut the grommet.
- Fit: push the grommet in from the outside so the flange sits flat against the wall.
- Insert the fitting: wet the barb or pipe with clean water and push it through with a twisting action.
- Test: fill the container above the hole and check for drips before connecting the pump.
