Athena Shoots Culture Media is the first-stage medium in Athena's tissue culture protocol, formulated to drive shoot multiplication once an explant has been established in sterile culture. It comes pre-formulated with the correct balance of macro and micronutrients, sugars and gelling agent already combined, so the grower's only job is to add water, autoclave, and dispense into Culture Vessels before transferring plant material.
Shoot multiplication is the stage that determines how many usable plantlets a single mother explant can generate, and it is highly sensitive to cytokinin balance — too aggressive a formulation produces stunted, glassy shoots (vitrification), while too weak a mix gives poor multiplication rates and wastes bench space. A tested, pre-formulated medium takes that variable out of a grower's hands and gives consistent multiplication rates batch after batch.
