As plants get top-heavy in fruit or flower, an unsupported stem will kink or lodge, so staking early keeps everything upright and the harvest off the floor, whether you are staking tomatoes, training beans and peas, or supporting ornamental climbers.

How to Use

• Push the cane firmly into the medium alongside the stem or root ball, avoiding the roots
• Tie stems in loosely with soft ties, leaving room for the stem to thicken
• Add ties up the cane as the plant gains height and weight
• For rows, link several canes with horizontal string to build a support frame
