Protect young roots with a concentrated dose of beneficial soil bacteria
BioTabs Bactrex is a dry, water-soluble powder loaded with a large population of beneficial soil bacteria and root microbes, including six strains of Bacillus species, alongside Trichoderma fungi, actinomycetes and humic acid - eight different bacterial strains in total plus the Trichoderma mould. It is a certified organic soil improver, suitable for both soil and coco, and works equally well indoors, outdoors, in containers or planted directly in the ground.
Its main job is protecting recently rooted cuttings and freshly germinated seedlings against pathogens, including Pythium, at exactly the stage when young roots are most vulnerable. The Bacillus and other soil bacteria strains are selected specifically for their beneficial effect on soil structure and fertility, while the Trichoderma strains are harmful to a number of the fungi responsible for plant disease, giving Bactrex a genuine protective role rather than just a nutritional one. The bacteria are carried in soluble yucca extract with organic catalysts to help them colonise the root zone quickly once applied.
Because Bactrex is a living product, the mixed solution needs to be used within six hours of dissolving it in water rather than stored for later use. One level teaspoon dissolved per litre of water is enough to treat around fifty cuttings or seedlings, making it a low-cost, high-value addition at the propagation stage where losing cuttings to damping off or root rot is one of the most common early setbacks a grower faces.
