The Bluelab Leap pH Probe – now sold by Bluelab as the Soil pH Probe – is the replacement spear-tip probe for the Bluelab Multimedia pH Meter (Bluelab's Soil pH Meter) and the Combo Meter Plus. Its reinforced tip pushes straight into soil, coco, rockwool and potting mixes, so you measure the pH the roots are actually sitting in, and it reads nutrient solution just as well. A standard BNC connector means it also fits any Bluelab handheld meter, monitor or controller with a BNC pH socket.

Root-zone pH drift and worn-out probes
Feed going in at the right pH does not guarantee the right pH around the roots: salts build up, organic media acidify over time and run-off tells only part of the story. When root-zone pH drifts, nutrients lock out and plants show deficiencies on a perfectly mixed feed, with poor nutrient uptake and slow growth. pH probes are also consumables – a slow response, wandering readings or a calibration that will not hold mean the glass and reference junction are worn, and a fresh probe restores accuracy without replacing the meter.
How to Use
- Connect: fit the BNC plug to the meter and twist to lock it.
- Calibrate: two-point, in pH 7.0 first, then pH 4.0 (or pH 10.0), following your meter's instructions.
- Measure: moisten the medium if it is dry, push the spear tip into the root zone and wait for the reading to settle.
- Rinse and store: rinse the tip in clean water after use and refit the KCl-filled cap – never let the probe dry out.
