British Minerals GrowZym is an enzyme activator that breaks down the dead root material every crop leaves behind. Its enzymes attack the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin that make up spent root tissue, converting it into simple sugars the plant and the root-zone microbes can actually use, and opening up the structure and aeration of the medium as they go.

That breakdown does two jobs at once. It clears the physical obstruction that stops new white root running, and it feeds the beneficial micro-organisms which in turn raise nutrient availability and crowd out pathogenic organisms. GrowZym also carries vitamins that stimulate the formation of new, disease-resistant roots, so it is as much a preventative as a clean-up product. It is the additive that makes re-using a substrate a sensible proposition rather than a gamble.

Stalled Growth in a Second-Run Medium

A medium that produced a good first crop and a poor second one is almost never exhausted of nutrient - it is clogged with the previous root system. Dead roots physically block new growth and, as they rot anaerobically, they lock up nutrient and harbour pathogens instead of releasing it. Enzymes are the only practical way to clear that material in situ, and running them continuously from week two means the root zone never gets the chance to choke in the first place.

How to Use

• Shake well before use
• Standard rate: 3ml per litre of water
• Re-used substrate: double the rate for the first month of feeding
• Timing: from transplant (week 2) right through to the start of flush
• All systems and media - add to the reservoir and mix thoroughly before feeding
• Do not exceed the recommended rate - overdosing can create anaerobic conditions in the medium
