Pre-Charge Coco Boards With Calcium and Magnesium Before You Plant

CANNA COGr Buffer Agent is the conditioning concentrate Canna developed to soak and buffer its COGr boards, and it is labelled for other unbuffered coco coir too. Mixed at 1:500, it swells the compressed coco and loads it with calcium and magnesium, so the medium is stable before the first feed goes on. The concentrate also contains humic and fulvic acids.

Why Raw Coco Needs Buffering

Unbuffered coco fibre holds sodium and potassium on its exchange sites and readily swaps them for calcium and magnesium. Plant straight into it and the coco strips Ca and Mg from your feed, which shows up as calcium and magnesium deficiencies, pale new growth and poor nutrient uptake in the first weeks, just when root development should be taking off. Soaking the boards in Buffer Agent satisfies that demand up front, so the feed you give later reaches the roots as intended.

How to Use

• Shake well before use.
• Dilution: add to the reservoir at 1:500 – 200ml per 100 litres of water.
• EC: the mixed solution reads about 1.5–1.8 mS/cm above the EC of your water.
• pH: adjust to 5.5–6.2.
• Per board: apply around 12.5 litres of buffer solution to each COGr slab.
• Soak: leave the swollen coco for at least 24 hours, then drain before planting.

Once buffered, feed with a coco-specific nutrient such as CANNA COGr Vega and Flores. Store closed in a dark, frost-free place.
