Holds moisture and still lets the root zone breathe
Mapito is a loose growing medium made from fibrous Cultilene rockwool flakes. Because the fibres hold water while the open structure between them holds air, you get a root zone that stays wet without going anaerobic — the balance that drives fast establishment and vigorous growth. It is filled straight into pots, containers or net pots in the same way you would use clay pebbles or coco, which makes it an easy swap into an existing setup. Supplied in an 80 litre bag, and it suits drip irrigation particularly well.
Key Benefits
- High aeration - the loose fibrous structure keeps oxygen available around the roots.
- Strong water and nutrient retention - the medium holds feed rather than flushing it straight through.
- Built for drip systems - drains freely, so frequent small feeds work exactly as intended.
- Direct alternative to coco or clay pebbles - fills pots and containers the same way.
- Stable structure - does not compact down and choke the root zone over a long cycle.
- 80 litre bag - enough volume to fill a run of containers in one go.
Getting Air and Water into the Root Zone
Roots need moisture and oxygen at the same time, and most root zone problems come from a medium that delivers one at the expense of the other. Too dense and it waterlogs; too open and it dries out between feeds. Mapito sits in the middle: the rockwool fibre itself carries the water, while the gaps between flakes stay open to air. That is why plants tend to establish quickly in it and keep feeding steadily right through the cycle.
How to Use
- Fill pots, containers or net pots with Mapito to your usual depth.
- Pre-wet thoroughly with pH-adjusted nutrient solution before planting.
- Transplant rooted cuttings or blocks straight into the medium.
- Feed little and often — several short irrigations beat one long soak.
- Check runoff to keep the medium moist rather than saturated.
