Description

Four grow lights and a heater, switched safely from one timed relay box

The Davin DV14-K Switch Box is a timer-controlled relay box (a contactor) for grow room lighting. A built-in Grasslin timer switches up to 4 x 600W or 5 x 400W light fittings through the box's own relay, and a separate heater outlet lets a grow room heater run from the same unit. The switching load never passes through a plug-in timer, which is the part that usually overheats and fails when several ballasts start at once. The enclosure is rated IP44 against splashes and the box handles up to 15 amps.

Key Benefits

  • Four lighting outlets - rated by Davin for 4 x 600W or 5 x 400W of lighting, all switched together.
  • Built-in Grasslin timer - set the light schedule once on the dial; no separate timer needed.
  • Relay switching - the timer only drives the relay, so it is not carrying the full lighting load.
  • Heater outlet - a dedicated 15A outlet for a grow room heater on the same unit.
  • IP44 enclosure - protected against splashing water for use in a grow room.

Why Do Plug-In Timers Fail With Several Lights?

High-intensity ballasts draw a heavy inrush current at switch-on. Run two, three or four of them from a domestic plug-in timer and the timer's small contacts take that surge every day until they weld, burn out or stick, leaving the lights stuck on or off and the plants on the wrong schedule. A contactor box like the DV14-K puts a proper relay between the mains and the lights, so the timer only signals the relay and the relay does the heavy switching. The result is a light cycle you can rely on and far less risk of an overheated socket.

How to Use

  • Mount: fix the box to a wall or board outside the wettest part of the room, with the cable gland pointing down.
  • Connect: plug the light fittings into the lighting outlets, keeping the total within 4 x 600W (or 5 x 400W), and the heater into the outlet marked HEATER.
  • Set the timer: push the segments on the Grasslin dial for the hours the lights should be on, then set the dial to the current time.
  • Power up: plug the box into a suitably rated mains supply and check that the lights switch at the set times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many lights can the DV14-K run?

Davin rate it for four 600W fittings or five 400W fittings, within its 15 amp rating, and it has four lighting outlets. Whatever you connect, keep the total lighting load inside that 15 amp rating.

What kind of sockets does it have?

The outlets are Schuko (European) sockets with hinged covers. Ballasts or heaters fitted with UK plugs need Schuko leads or suitable adapters to connect.

Do I need a separate timer?

No. The DV14-K has its own Grasslin timer on the lid, which drives the relay that switches the lights.
