Grow to Leaf Temperature, Not Air Temperature

The Dimlux Digital Plant Temperature Camera reads the real temperature of your canopy and feeds it back to the fixture. This digital version works only with the Dimlux Xtreme LED – the older analogue camera does not – and comes with a mounting bracket. LED fixtures do not emit the infrared radiation that the vast majority of HPS fixtures do, and that infrared is what lifted plant temperature above the air around it. Carry an HPS air temperature into an LED room and the leaf runs cold, the RuBisCo enzyme works poorly and CO2 assimilation is limited.

Why Is Your LED Room Growing Slowly at the Right Temperature?

Growing at air temperature is a no-go under LED. Without infrared from the fixture, plant temperature sits below where you assume it is, and you get slow growth, poor nutrient uptake and low yields in a room whose wall thermometer looks textbook. Plant temperature should be leading, with air temperature used indirectly to control it. It also depends on spectrum, intensity and VPD – green light heats the plant more than other colours – so there is no single ideal air temperature to aim for.

How to Use

• Mount it on the fixture at the same angle as the lighting for the most accurate reading
• Aim it at the most-lit foliage, where the assimilation lighting lands and photosynthesis is actually happening
• Cover as large a leaf area as possible for a true average
• With a high penetration lens, aim so it sees the most foliage and least of anything else
• Adjust air temperature to hit your plant temperature target, then fine-tune on VPD
