Description
Air-pruned roots from the first transplant, with no plastic sleeve
The Eazy Block is a bonded, mostly organic propagation block from the makers of Eazy Plug – 75 x 75 x 65mm, supplied dry, with the same buffered pH and EC and fixed 20:80 air-to-water ratio as the plugs. It is bonded firmly enough to need no plastic wrap, so when roots reach the outside of the block they meet the air and stop: air pruning. The plant answers by branching secondary roots and fine root hairs right through the block, building a dense, absorbent root ball ready for its final pot, slab or system. The square planting hole takes a rooted Eazy Plug straight in, so cuttings and seedlings move up without being disturbed.
Key Benefits
- Natural air pruning – no sleeve, so roots branch inside the block instead of circling
- Buffered pH 5.8 and EC 1.0 – stable conditions from the moment it is wetted
- 20:80 air-to-water ratio – holds water without going sodden
- Re-wets fast – under 15 seconds watered from above, under 90 seconds from below
- Supplied dry and light – 35g a block, clean to store with long shelf life
- 100% compostable in ordinary composting conditions
Weak, circling roots after transplanting?
Roots that hit the wall of a plastic pot or a wrapped block keep growing round it, and the plant spends its first days after transplant untangling itself – the classic cause of slow restarts and transplant shock. In an Eazy Block the root tips stop at the air and the plant fills the block with fine feeder roots instead, so root development and nutrient uptake pick up quickly once it is planted on.
How to Use
- Moisten: let the blocks soak up water at pH 5.8 (a root stimulator can go in too), then let the excess drain – do not squeeze them, they hold only the water they need
- Plant: drop the rooted Eazy Plug, seedling or cutting into the square hole on top
- Re-water only when lighter brown patches start to show, and stand the blocks with space between them so the sides stay open to the air
- Feed: after about 5 days re-wet with a light feed at EC 1.2–1.4 and pH 5.8
- Move on after roughly 8–10 days, when roots have filled the block and start to show at the sides – plant the whole block into coco, soil, rockwool or a hydro system

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the blocks need a plastic wrap?
No. Eazy Block is bonded firmly enough to hold together on its own, and leaving the sides open is what lets the roots air-prune.
Will an Eazy Plug fit in the hole?
Yes – the block is made as the next step for a rooted Eazy Plug, which drops into the planting hole so the roots carry on without disturbance.
Do I need to feed straight away?
No. The block is pre-buffered at EC 1.0, so young plants start on gentle conditions. Eazy Plug advise starting a light feed at EC 1.2–1.4 and pH 5.8 after about five days.
Why is there green on the outside?
Light falling on the damp, uncovered sides can grow green algae. Eazy Plug say algae is not harmful to the plant in itself, but it can slow water uptake and draws fungus gnats, so shade the area around the blocks (not the plants) to keep it down.
