Cold compost slows germination and can leave weaker seedlings, but a full multi-section propagator is more than many gardeners need for a single tray of seeds or a small batch of cuttings. The One Top's heated base warms the compost enough to aid fast germination and support young plant development, at a fraction of the running cost of a household heat mat.
How to Use
- Fill the growing tray with moist compost or seed compost and sow seed, or insert cuttings
- Fit the high dome cover and set the vent to a light opening to start
- Plug in — the base is not thermostatically controlled and simply warms the compost above room temperature
- Open the vent progressively as seedlings establish to reduce humidity and the risk of damping off
