Description

A big heated propagator with real headroom for tall cuttings

The Garland XL High Dome is a full-size electric propagator with a 24W heated base and an unusually tall cover — 15cm of clear height above the tray, where most propagators give you barely half that. It measures 59 x 41 x 26.5cm externally, so it takes a serious batch of seed trays or small pots in one go, and the adjustable vents in the crystal-clear dome let you bring humidity down gradually as seedlings harden off. Every part is injection moulded in rigid plastic, and the base draws so little power that it is designed to be left running.

What's Included

    \n
  • \n24W heated base - simple non-thermostatic control unit
  • \n
  • \nGrowing tray - injection moulded, with no drainage holes
  • \n
  • \nHigh dome cover - crystal clear, with adjustable vents
  • \n

Key Benefits

    \n
  • \n15cm of height under the dome - room for cuttings and leggy seedlings that a standard propagator lid would flatten
  • \n
  • \n24W of gentle bottom heat - warms the medium a few degrees above room temperature, which is the variable that actually drives germination
  • \n
  • \nLarge 59 x 41cm footprint - takes several seed trays or a full batch of small pots in one unit
  • \n
  • \nAdjustable vents - closed to hold humidity for unrooted cuttings, opened by degrees to harden plants off
  • \n
  • \nCheap to run - 24W is about the draw of a small lamp, so it can stay on continuously
  • \n
  • \nTray has no drainage holes - so it doubles as a drip tray for pots when it is not in use as a propagator
  • \n
  • \nRigid injection-moulded throughout - built to be reused season after season rather than replaced
  • \n

Cold Compost Is Why Seed Sits and Does Nothing

Germination is driven by the temperature of the medium, not the air, and an unheated windowsill in early spring often sits well below what most seed needs. The result is slow, patchy germination, seed that rots before it sprouts, and cuttings that sulk for weeks without making roots. A heated base fixes the one variable that matters by warming the tray from underneath, while the closed dome holds the humidity that stops an unrooted cutting losing water faster than it can take it up. It also takes the sting out of transplant shock, because a plant raised at a steady root temperature moves on into a pot without stalling.

How to Use

    \n
  • \nSite it level near a power point and out of direct draughts
  • \n
  • \nStand filled trays or pots on the growing tray - heat passes up through the tray, so avoid standing water directly on it
  • \n
  • \nClose the vents while seed is germinating or cuttings are rooting, to hold humidity in
  • \n
  • \nOpen them by degrees once growth appears, over about a week, so plants harden off instead of wilting the day they come out
  • \n
  • \nLeave it switched on - at 24W it is intended for continuous running
  • \n
  • \nVent more in a warm room - the base is non-thermostatic, so it cannot back off on its own and the dome is how you control the temperature
  • \n
