Description
Slow, Even Watering Along the Whole Length of the Pipe
G.A.S Porous Pipe is a soaker hose for trickle irrigation: water seeps out through the porous wall along the entire length of the pipe, so it reaches the soil gently and steadily at root level instead of being sprayed over the leaves. It can be laid on the surface or buried below ground, and one long length runs beds, borders, raised beds and polytunnel rows without a single dripper or emitter to fit, block or clean.
Key Benefits
- Waters along its whole length – a continuous wet strip rather than isolated drip points
- Water goes to the roots – gentle seepage at soil level means less run-off and dry foliage
- On the surface or buried – lay it on top or set it below ground, out of sight and out of the way
- No emitters to block – nothing to clog, so there is less to maintain through the season
Uneven Watering and Wasted Water?
Watering from above wets the leaves, encouraging fungal disease, and much of the water evaporates or runs off before it soaks in, while some plants end up dry and others waterlogged. Uneven moisture slows root development and growth. Porous pipe puts a slow, steady supply right where the roots are, keeping the soil evenly moist along the whole row for healthier, more consistent plant health with less water.
How to Use
- Lay it along the row close to the plants, on the surface or buried a few centimetres down; a layer of mulch on top cuts evaporation further
- Cut it to length for each bed and close off the far end so water is pushed out through the pipe wall
- Run it at low pressure – open the tap only part way, or feed it from a raised water tank, so water seeps rather than sprays
- Water for longer, gentler sessions and check soil moisture at root depth to set how long and how often
Technical Specifications
- Type: Porous pipe (soaker hose) for trickle irrigation
- Length: 100m

Frequently Asked Questions
Can porous pipe be buried?
Yes. G.A.S. state it can be used above or below the ground. Buried a few centimetres down, or under mulch, it waters at root level with very little lost to evaporation.
Can I cut it into shorter lengths?
Yes – cut it to suit each bed or row, and close off the far end of every run so the water seeps out along the pipe rather than pouring from the end.
How long should I run it for?
It depends on soil, weather and crop. Start with short sessions, then check the soil at root depth and lengthen or shorten the run time until it stays evenly moist without puddling.
