Description
Rigid, rot-proof support for heavy and tall plants
Grow Bitz Coated Steel Garden Stakes have a steel core sealed in a green PE plastic coating, giving far more stiffness than bamboo at the same thickness while never rotting, splitting or rusting. The coating is ringed along its length so ties grip rather than slide down, and the ends are pointed to push cleanly into soil, compost or coco. They are sold 100 at a time in 5ft (1.5m) and 6ft (1.8m) lengths, for staking a whole greenhouse, polytunnel or grow room of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, climbing beans, young trees and shrubs.
Key Benefits
- Steel core stays straight under heavy fruit and top-heavy growth.
- PE coated, so it is rustproof and weatherproof indoors and out.
- Ringed surface holds twine, ties and clips in place.
- Pointed ends for easy placement in the pot or bed.
- Reusable year after year, and easy to wipe clean between crops.
- Sold by the hundred for staking at scale.
Stop Stems Snapping and Bending
As plants put on weight in fruit and flower, unsupported stems kink, lean or snap, cutting off the flow of water and nutrients to everything above the damage. Staking early keeps growth upright, spreads the load and holds the canopy open for light and airflow.
How to Use
- Push the stake in beside the plant while it is young, a few centimetres from the main stem so roots are not damaged.
- Tie the stem loosely to the stake with soft twine or plant ties, adding ties as the plant grows.
- For heavy crops, use two or three stakes per plant or join stakes into a frame.
- Wash and store after use; the coating keeps them ready for the next season.
