Nutrient residue, algae and mineral scale slowly coat the glass bulb, and that film is exactly what makes an older probe read slowly or drift off true. Clearing it restores a clean, active electrode surface so readings settle quickly and calibration holds.

Slow, drifting pH readings from a fouled electrode
A probe that reads slowly or drifts between calibrations is almost always fouled rather than faulty. The glass bulb needs a clean surface to sense hydrogen ions; nutrient film, algae and mineral scale insulate it and throw your pH off, which in turn feeds nutrient lockout and uptake problems in the reservoir.
How to Use
- Soak the tip: immerse only the electrode bulb in the cleaner for the time stated for your meter, typically 10-15 minutes
- Rinse well: rinse thoroughly with clean or RO water before anything else
- Recalibrate: follow with a fresh pH 4.0 and 7.0 calibration, then return the probe to storage solution
- When to use: whenever readings feel slow or drift, or as routine monthly maintenance
