Description

A coir-based start for seeds and cuttings that stays open and airy

Jiffy-7C Coco Coir Propagation Plugs hold coco coir (blended with peat in the 39mm plug) inside a fine mesh netting, giving seedlings and cuttings a free-draining medium that holds its shape from soak to potting on. The coir content keeps the plug more open than a straight peat pellet, so oxygen reaches the root zone even when the plug is kept consistently moist. Because the netting holds everything together, you plant the whole pellet on once roots show, with no disturbance to the young root system. Two plug sizes are available: the 39mm coir and peat plug and the smaller 35mm Jiffy-7C coir plug.

Key Benefits

  • 70% coco coir, 30% peat blend in the 39mm plug gives a free-draining, well-aerated propagation medium; the 35mm plug is coco coir in the same style of netting
  • Instant expansion - swells to size once soaked, ready to plant in minutes
  • Low root disturbance - fine mesh netting lets the whole plug go on at potting
  • Good moisture buffering - stays evenly damp without waterlogging
  • Versatile - suits seeds, softwood cuttings and potting on into soil, coco or hydro

Getting weak, oxygen-starved roots from waterlogged plugs?

A pure peat pellet can hold onto too much water in a humid propagator, leaving roots short of oxygen and slow to establish. The coir content in a 7C plug opens up the structure, so it drains more freely between waterings and gives new roots the air they need to push out fast.

How to Use

  1. Soak the plugs in clean water until fully expanded, then drain off any excess.
  2. Sow or dip - drop a seed into the pre-formed hole, or dip a cutting in and firm gently.
  3. Propagate - keep in a humid propagator until roots show through the netting.
  4. Pot on - transplant the whole plug into its next growing medium.
