Description

A ready-made start for seeds and cuttings

Jiffy Propagation Plugs are compressed peat pellets held together in a fine mesh netting, giving cuttings and seedlings an easy, low-disturbance medium to root into before potting on. Because the netting holds the plug's shape, roots establish without the handling that causes transplant shock in loose media - you simply plant the whole pellet on once roots show. They pop up to size in seconds once soaked, so you can go from dry pellet to planted cutting in minutes.

Key Benefits

  • Instant expansion - swells to size once soaked in water, ready to plant straight away.
  • Low root disturbance - the mesh netting lets you pot the whole plug on, roots and all.
  • Good aeration - the open peat structure holds moisture while supporting steady root development.
  • Versatile - suits seeds, softwood cuttings and potting on into soil, coco or hydro.

Losing cuttings to transplant shock?

Seedlings and cuttings started in loose compost often stall when they're teased out and moved on, because the fragile root system gets disturbed. A netted plug is planted on whole, so the roots are never handled and establishment stays smooth.

How to Use

  1. Soak the plugs in clean water until fully expanded, then drain off any excess.
  2. Sow or dip - drop a seed into the pre-formed hole, or dip a cutting in and firm gently.
  3. Propagate - keep in a humid propagator until roots show through the netting.
  4. Pot on - transplant the whole plug into its next growing medium.

Questions & answers

How do I prepare Jiffy plugs?

Soak them in clean water until they've fully expanded, which only takes seconds, then drain off any excess. They're then ready to sow into or take cuttings.

Can I use them for seeds and cuttings?

Yes. Drop a seed into the pre-formed hole, or dip a cutting in and firm gently, then keep them in a humid propagator until roots show through the netting.

Do I take the netting off before potting on?

No. The mesh holds the plug together so you can plant the whole thing on, roots and all, without disturbing the young root system.

What can I transplant them into?

Soil, coco or a hydroponic system. The peat plug goes straight into the next growing medium.

Can I buy them in bulk?

Yes, they're sold singly or in a box of 1000.
