Description
Hands-off watering for seedlings, cuttings and young plants
The MegaPot Veg Pot is a gravity-fed tray for the stage when plants are small and need a little water often: seedlings, rooted cuttings and young plants before they move to their final pots. Hand-watering a tray of small pots is where most early losses start – some pots stay sodden and some dry out, which leads to overwatering, stalled root development and plants that are uneven when it is time to pot on. The Veg Pot replaces the watering can with a float valve that keeps a shallow level of water or nutrient solution in the tray, and capillary matting under the pots spreads it evenly so every plant draws up moisture at the same rate. No timer, no pump and no power.
Choose 16 x 2 litre or 25 x 1 litre square pots – both layouts sit in the same 60 x 60 cm tray on a 20 mm raised bed. The 1 litre layout gets the most plants into the space for seedlings and cuttings; the 2 litre layout gives each plant more root room for a longer vegetative stage, which means stronger plants and less transplant shock when they go into a larger system.
Key Benefits
- No timer required – the float valve tops the tray up from a raised tank as the plants drink
- Even moisture – capillary matting is included to wick solution under every pot
- Two layouts – 16 x 2 L or 25 x 1 L square pots
- Raised bed – a 20 mm raised base in a compact 60 x 60 cm tray
- Modular – gravity fed like the rest of the MegaPot range, so it can share a reservoir with other trays
How to Use
- Place the tray level and set your reservoir higher than it so the feed runs down by gravity.
- Connect your feed line to the valve inlet and let the tray fill to the valve's level.
- Lay the capillary matting flat, then stand the pots on it.
- Fill the pots with a fine propagation mix or coco, sow or plant, and water each pot through from the top once so the medium starts evenly moist; the valve and matting keep it that way.
- Use a mild feed suited to young plants rather than a full-strength nutrient mix.
- Pot on when roots reach the walls of the pot, before plants become root-bound.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a timer or pump?
No. The Veg Pot is gravity fed from a reservoir set above it, and the float valve opens and closes on its own to keep the tray at the right level.
Which layout should I choose?
The 25 x 1 litre layout fits the most plants for raising seedlings and cuttings. The 16 x 2 litre layout gives each plant more root room, so it suits plants you want to keep longer before potting on.
Can it run from the same tank as my MegaPot modules?
Yes - it is gravity fed like the MegaPot single modules and MultiPots, so it can be fed from the same raised reservoir. Young plants usually want a milder feed, so many growers give them a separate small tank.
