Description

Colour-true grow room photos straight from your phone

Photos taken under grow lights rarely show what is really there. Under HPS the whole canopy comes out orange; under blurple LEDs everything turns pink and purple, and the phone's white balance cannot pull it back. The Method Seven Catalyst is a clip-on lens filter for phones and tablets that corrects the light before it reaches the camera, using a Carl Zeiss lens made to Method Seven's colour-balancing formula. Clip it over the camera and shoot as normal: leaves, flowers and any problems on them appear in natural colour. That makes it ideal for keeping a grow diary, comparing progress week to week, or sending a clear photo to a supplier or adviser when you are trying to diagnose a deficiency or pest.

Two versions are made. The HPS filter (blue lens) is for high pressure sodium rooms. The LED (Blurple) filter (green lens) is for red-and-blue or magenta LED fixtures only – it is not designed for modern full-spectrum white LEDs.

Key Benefits

  • Natural colour under grow lights – no more orange HPS or purple LED photos
  • Clips onto phones and tablets – fits over the camera without tools
  • Carl Zeiss lens for sharp, clear images
  • Removable 37 mm filter – unscrews from the clip and can be fitted to other cameras with a 37 mm thread, such as some grow-room security cameras
  • Tough clip made from aircraft-grade, high-temperature injected polymer

How to Use

  • Choose the version for your lights: HPS for high pressure sodium, LED (Blurple) for red-and-blue LED fixtures.
  • Clip the filter over the camera lens you shoot with and centre it; check the preview for dark corners and adjust if needed.
  • On phones with several cameras, shoot with the lens the filter covers rather than letting the phone switch lenses.
  • For a fixed camera with a 37 mm thread, unscrew the filter from the clip and screw it on directly.
  • Keep the lens clean with a soft microfibre cloth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the LED version work with my full-spectrum LED?

No. The LED (Blurple) filter is made for red-and-blue or magenta LED fixtures and is not designed for full-spectrum white LEDs.

Will it fit my phone?

The spring clip fits phones and tablets and sits over the camera lens. On phones with several cameras it covers one lens, so shoot with that camera.

Can I use it on a grow-room camera?

Yes, if the camera takes a 37 mm screw-in filter - the filter unscrews from the clip and fits the camera's thread directly.
