The Milwaukee pH51 is a handheld digital pH meter for checking nutrient solution before it goes anywhere near your plants. It reads across the full 0.0 to 14.0 pH range to an accuracy of ±0.1 pH, shows the result on a large LCD and is fully waterproof to IP65, so a dunk in the reservoir is not a disaster. Calibration is a manual one or two point routine, the electrode is replaceable, and the four button cells give over 1500 hours of use.

The Trouble with Guessing Your pH

Nutrients are only available to the plant across a fairly narrow pH band. Drift outside it and elements you have already paid for stay locked in solution, and what looks like a deficiency is really a lockout. Colour drops and paper strips get you close but not close enough to spot a slow drift in a recirculating tank. A meter you trust turns feeding from guesswork into something you can repeat.

How to Use

• Calibrate with fresh buffer solution before first use and regularly afterwards.
• Rinse the electrode with clean water between readings, never wipe it dry.
• Dip the probe into the mixed solution and wait for the reading to settle.
• Adjust with pH up or down, stir, then re-test rather than dosing twice.
• Store the electrode wet in storage solution, never dry.
