Description
Faster, Stronger Roots for Seeds and Cuttings
Plagron NextGen Growplug is a ready-to-use propagation plug made from a 50/50 blend of buffered, washed coco coir and white peat, lightly pre-fertilised so young plants have something to draw on from the first day. The peat holds moisture while the coco keeps the plug open and airy, giving the air/water balance that drives fast root development, longer roots and more root hairs. Each plug has a pre-formed hole for a seed or cutting, sits in a tray with drainage holes, and is held together by a binder so it stays in one piece when you lift it out to check roots or transplant it into coco, soil or hydro.
Key Benefits
- 50% coco, 50% peat – moisture retention from the peat, open structure from the coco
- Lightly pre-fertilised with NPK and trace elements to support the first roots
- Pre-formed hole – push in fragile cuttings without crushing the stem
- Bound plug that stays intact – no crumbling and no root damage at transplant
- Supplied dry – light, clean and free of mould until you wet it
- Drainage-hole tray of 84 plugs that can be cut into smaller sections
Why Do Cuttings Stall in the Wrong Plug?
A plug that stays waterlogged starves the stem of oxygen and invites rot, while one that dries out fast leaves a fresh cutting wilting before it can root. Loose media also crumbles when you move it, tearing the first fine roots and adding transplant shock to an already fragile plant. NextGen Growplug's coco/peat mix holds water without going soggy and keeps air around the stem, and its bound structure means the root ball moves as one piece, so seedlings and cuttings carry on growing instead of stalling.
How to Use
- Wet the plugs: soak them in water, or water from the top and let the tray drain
- Plant: widen the hole slightly if needed, then set the seed or cutting in the pre-formed hole in the middle of each plug
- Keep humidity high: place the tray in a propagator or other humid spot to stop cuttings losing too much water
- Water when light: re-wet when the plug starts to feel dry or noticeably lighter; never let it dry out completely
- Feed lightly once rooted: the plugs carry a starter charge, but once roots show give a weak nutrient solution at an EC below 1.0 mS/cm
- Transplant: move the whole plug into your growing medium as soon as roots are visible

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to use a whole tray at once?
No. The tray is plastic and can be cut into sections, so you only wet and plant as many plugs as you need.
Do the plugs need feeding?
They are lightly pre-fertilised, which covers the rooting stage. Once roots appear, Plagron recommends a weak feed with the EC kept below 1 mS/cm, or transplanting straight into your growing medium.
How often should I water them?
Water when the plug begins to feel dry or lighter in weight. Keep it evenly moist rather than wet, and do not let it dry out completely.
What can I transplant them into?
The plug stays intact, so it can go straight into coco, soil or a hydro system once roots are visible, with no need to remove it.
