Description

Compact Coco Bricks That Expand Into Clean, Ready-to-Use Substrate

Plant Magic Coco Brick is dehydrated coco coir pressed into a light, compact brick that expands to roughly 9 litres of growing medium once soaked. The coir comes from India's leading producer of premium-grade coir and is treated with a calcium-magnesium solution to strip out excess salts and lower its EC. It is free from pathogens, odours, roots and the other debris often found in cheaper coco, and because it is not heat-treated, the naturally occurring beneficial fungus Trichoderma is left in place around the roots.

Key Benefits

  • About 9 L per brick — soak it and it expands into ready-to-use coco substrate
  • Calcium-magnesium treated — excess salts removed and the EC lowered before you start feeding
  • Not heat-treated — keeps the natural Trichoderma that colonises the root zone and crowds out pathogens
  • Clean coir — free from pathogens, odours, roots and other impurities
  • Air and water in balance — drains freely and holds moisture without waterlogging
  • Compact to store and carry — far lighter and smaller than bagged, ready-hydrated coco

Heavy Bags, Salty Coir and Waterlogged Roots

Ready-hydrated bags are heavy to carry into a grow room, and unbuffered coir arrives loaded with sodium and potassium that lock up calcium and magnesium, so plants show nutrient deficiencies however well they are fed. Soil, on the other hand, stays wet and short of air, which slows root development. A buffered coco brick fixes all three: it stores in a cupboard, starts clean and low in salts, and the light texture keeps oxygen around the roots so they stay healthy and grow fast.

How to Use

  • Soak first: put each brick in a large bucket or tub and add plenty of water; it swells to about 9 litres within minutes
  • Break it up: crumble any compressed lumps until the coir is loose and evenly moist
  • Charge it: Plant Magic advise thoroughly soaking the bricks first, then adding Plant Magic Coco A&B at 2–4 ml per litre of substrate
  • Pot up: fill pots loosely, without packing the coir down, so air stays in the root zone
  • Feed for coco: use a coco-specific base nutrient from then on

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the coir already buffered?

Yes. Plant Magic treat it with a calcium-magnesium solution to remove excess salts and lower the EC, so it is ready to plant into once it has been soaked and charged with nutrients.

How much substrate does a box make?

Each brick expands to about 9 litres, so a box of 24 makes roughly 216 litres of coco substrate.

What should I feed it with?

Use a coco-specific base nutrient. Plant Magic recommend their Coco A&B at 2–4 ml per litre of substrate when you first charge the soaked coir.
