Description

Living Root Biology for Faster Establishment and Stronger Roots

Psycho Myco is a concentrated, water-soluble mycorrhizal inoculant from the Myco Family that puts mycorrhizal fungi, beneficial bacteria and Trichoderma into one fine powder. Applied to the root zone, the fungi colonise the roots and spread a network of fine threads far out into the growing medium, reaching water and nutrients the plant's own roots could not, while the bacteria and Trichoderma work alongside them around the roots. The maker credits it with up to 30% more root mass. It suits soil, coco, rockwool and other absorbent media and can also go into a hydroponic reservoir, and it is used from seed and cuttings through to potting on established plants, for any crop.

Key Benefits

  • Up to 30% more root mass – a larger, finer root system to feed the plant above it
  • Better nutrient and water uptake – fungal threads reach into medium the roots alone cannot
  • Less transplant shock – colonised roots settle into fresh medium and get growing again sooner
  • Three groups of microbes in one – mycorrhizal fungi, beneficial bacteria and Trichoderma in a single application
  • Water-soluble powder – dust it dry, dip cuttings in it or water it in; the spores start to germinate once wet
  • Small doses – just 1g per litre of root ball at transplant or 5g per 10L as a weekly drench

Transplant Shock and Slow Root Development

Potting on and rooting cuttings are the points where growth most often stalls. The roots have to push out into fresh medium before they can feed the plant again, and a weak or damaged root system leaves it short of water and nutrients and vulnerable to stress for days. Putting beneficial fungi and bacteria onto the roots at that moment helps new roots establish quickly, keeps nutrient uptake going while the plant recovers and supports healthy root development for the rest of the cycle, through vegetative growth and into flowering and fruiting.

How to Use

  • Transplanting: dust the planting hole and root ball at 1g per 1L of root ball, then set the plant in place and water in
  • Seeds: lightly dust each planting hole before sowing and watering
  • Cuttings: moisten the base of the cutting and dip it into the powder before placing it in your rooting media
  • Slurry dip: mix powder and water 1:1 and dip bare roots before planting
  • Top feed / root drench: 5g (1 tsp) per 10L of water, once a week – best given by hand watering in absorbent media
  • Hydroponic reservoir: 5g (1 tsp) per 35L of water
  • Water: use dechlorinated water – chlorine in tap water harms living microbes, so let it stand for 24 hours or treat it first
  • Compatibility: do not use with hydrogen peroxide or other sterilising products, which kill the fungi and bacteria

Note — The Myco Family's own directions, as UK stockists print them: 1g per litre of root ball at transplanting, 5g (1 tsp) per 10L as a weekly drench and 5g per 35L in a reservoir. Use dechlorinated water and never mix with hydrogen peroxide. Set EC first, then adjust pH, once every base nutrient and additive is in the tank.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Psycho Myco in a hydroponic system?

Yes. Add 5g (1 teaspoon) per 35L of reservoir water. It works best in absorbent media such as soil, coco or rockwool, where it can be watered in by hand at 5g per 10L.

How often should I apply it?

Apply it at sowing, rooting or transplanting, when colonisation is fastest, then use it as a weekly root drench at 5g per 10L of water.

Can I mix it with tap water?

Chlorine in tap water harms the living microbes. Leave tap water to stand for 24 hours first, or treat it with a dechlorinator, and never combine Psycho Myco with hydrogen peroxide.

What is the difference between Psycho Myco and Momma Myco?

Psycho Myco is the fine, water-soluble powder for dusting, dipping and drenching. Momma Myco is the granular version from the same range, worked into the growing medium at transplant.
