Description
Pure Single-Species Mycorrhizae for a Bigger Root System
Xtreme Gardening Mykos is a granular inoculant built around a single species of beneficial fungus, Rhizophagus intraradices, applied once at planting to form a lasting symbiotic relationship with the root system. The fungus extends out from the roots as fine hyphae, dramatically increasing the surface area available for taking up nutrients and water in exchange for sugars from the plant — an association that keeps working for the rest of the crop's life.
Key Benefits
- Single-species endo-mycorrhizae — Rhizophagus intraradices, effective across vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers
- Increases nutrient and water uptake — fungal hyphae act as an extension of the root system
- Reduces transplant shock — stimulates new root growth right when it's needed most
- One-time application — applied at the root zone once, it grows with the plant
- OMRI-listed — suitable for organic growing
A plant's own root system can only physically reach a fraction of the water and nutrients available in its growing medium, and a stressed transplant often can't recover fast enough to keep up with the rest of the crop. By colonising the roots and extending far beyond them, Mykos gives the plant access to far more of its medium and helps new plantings push through transplant shock with fresh root growth.
How to Use
- 1–3 gal container: 1–2 tbsp directly against the roots at planting
- 5–7 gal container: 4–6 tbsp
- 10–20 gal container: 1/2 cup
- 25–50 gal container: 1 cup
- Rockwool cubes: 1–2 tsp worked into the base of the hole before setting the plant
- In-ground and raised beds: 1–2 tbsp per planting hole
- 100 gal container: 2 cups
- Sowing seed: 1 tbsp per foot of row, or ½ tsp per cell or plug
Mykos must make direct contact with the root ball to work, so apply it against the roots rather than on top of the medium, then backfill and water in as normal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it work in coco or hydro?
Yes. Xtreme Gardening say Mykos works in every type of growing media. The one rule is contact: it must touch the roots, so put it in the planting hole or, with rockwool, under the roots in the cube's hole before setting the plant.
Can I use it with mineral nutrients?
Yes. The maker states it can be used with synthetic and natural fertilisers, so it fits alongside a normal feed programme.
Does it contain other microbes?
No. Mykos is a single species, Rhizophagus intraradices (formerly Glomus intraradices). There is no trichoderma, bacteria or ecto-mycorrhizae in it.
Is it suitable for organic growing?
Yes. It is OMRI-listed and labelled as an organic root enhancer.
