Silica in the cell wall, laid down while the tissue forms
Rhino Skin is a potassium silicate supplement that strengthens cell walls. Silica is deposited as tissue forms, so it has to be supplied during vegetative growth and the stretch - adding it in late flower achieves very little.
Key Benefits
- Stiffer stems - branches that hold a heavy canopy without staking
- Tougher leaf surface - harder for sap-feeding pests and mildew to penetrate
- Better heat tolerance - silicified tissue loses water more slowly
- Timing matters - supplied while tissue is forming, not afterwards
- Any base feed - mineral or organic
Branches bending under the weight they set
Growth pushed hard under strong light gets tall before it gets strong, and by mid-flower the branches are bending under weight they should be able to carry. Once tissue has formed, silica cannot be retrofitted into it - the window is earlier than most growers use it.
How to Use
- Vegetative growth: 2 ml per litre at every feed
- Through the stretch: 2 ml per litre for the first three weeks of flower
- Mixing: ⚑ add to plain water first and stir before anything else - silicates raise pH sharply and will precipitate with a concentrated feed
- pH: check and correct after mixing, not before
- Late flower: taper off - structure is already set
