A Sterile Root Zone Holding Back Nutrient Uptake
Fresh coco, rockwool and clean hydroponic water start with almost no biology. Roots in that environment work alone: root development is slower, minerals that bind to the medium stay out of reach, and anything harmful that arrives finds nothing competing with it. A healthy population of beneficial bacteria and fungi changes that. The fungi extend the effective reach of every root, the bacteria release bound minerals and fix nitrogen, and a colonised root surface leaves little room for unwanted microbes. The result is better nutrient uptake and sturdier plant health, which is why inoculating early pays off right through flowering.
How to Use
- Standard rate: 1 tablet per 380 L (100 US gallons) of nutrient solution - drop it in and let it dissolve fully
- Smaller tanks: split the tablet - half a tablet treats a 200 L reservoir
- Dosing pumps (1:100): make a stock tank at about 1 tablet per 3.8 L, keep it moving with a recirculating pump and use it within about a week
- When: the maker's chart uses it in weeks 1 to 3 of vegetative growth and weeks 1 to 3 of flowering
- Keep it alive: do not combine with hydrogen peroxide, chlorine or other sterilisers in the same tank
- Teas: it can be brewed into a compost or microbial tea, though the dominant strains will take over
