Why Lower Growth Falls Behind
Overhead light loses intensity quickly as it passes through a dense canopy, so the lower flowering sites develop more slowly, finish smaller and lack the colour and density of the top. Many growers strip that growth away, which costs labour and gives up part of the crop. Under-canopy bars put light where top lights cannot reach, adding roughly 35–50 cm of usable canopy depth (Faven's figure is 14–20 in) and evening out light penetration from the top of the plant to the bottom. Faven report yield increases of 20–30% where their bars are added.
How to Use
- Position: clip each bar onto its stand pair at 20, 25 or 30 cm (8, 10 or 12 in) and run it between the plant rows, with the base no lower than the lip of the pot or slab.
- Connect: link bars end to end along a row, bridge to the next row with the 3 ft jumper, and plug the power cable into the first bar.
- Control: plug the Mini Controller into the communication lead on the power cable and set 1–9 or F (full power). It dims only, so switch the bars on and off with a timer on the same schedule as your top lights.
- Ramp up: start the bars at their lowest setting (about 40%) as flowering begins and bring them to full power over the first two to three weeks.
- Target: aim for 500–800 µmol/m²/s in the lower half of the plant and clear any leaves touching or shading the bars.
- Water and feed: the extra light raises demand – Faven suggest around 10–15% more irrigation volume and about 10% higher EC, adjusted to how the plants respond.

Which kit size do I need?
Faven size their packs by footprint: two bars light a 1.2 × 1.2 m (4 × 4 ft) tent or bench and four bars a 1.2 × 2.4 m (4 × 8 ft) area, with the Pro Pack and Pro Pack XL scaling the same density to larger rooms. Single Faven R8 bars can be added to any kit later, up to 20 on one power cable.
Do I need a timer?
Yes. The Mini Controller only dims the bars (levels 1–9 and full power) and cannot switch them on or off, so run the power cable from a timer or contactor set to the same schedule as your top lights.
Can I run the bars from my existing lighting controller?
Yes, the R8 accepts any 0-10V dimming signal. Faven list TrolMaster Hydro-X and Hydro-X Pro, GrowFlux and the VIVOSUN GrowHub E42A as working, and Gavita and Luxx controllers as not compatible. The CX2 controller is for the Faven Chroma only.
Should I choose the R8 or the Chroma?
The R8 has a fixed, red-heavy spectrum built for LED top-light rooms, mixed-light rooms and greenhouses, run from the simple Mini Controller. The Faven Chroma adds an adjustable R4–R9 spectrum and a separate 15W far-red channel, controlled by the CX2.
