Description
Precise, chloride-free calcium the plant can use straight away
Grotek Vital is a liquid calcium supplement (5% Ca) for coco, soilless and hydroponic growing. Grotek take calcium carbonate and convert it to calcium acetate, a fully water-soluble form that is immediately plant-available, so there is no lag between feeding and uptake. Because it is calcium on its own rather than a cal-mag blend, it lets you set the calcium level in your nutrient solution precisely, and its ultra-low chloride formula avoids loading the root zone with chloride. Grotek rate it an excellent choice for any garden and a necessity when growing in coco.
Key Benefits
- 5% calcium in a fully soluble acetate form — available the moment it is fed
- Calcium on its own — raise calcium without changing magnesium or iron
- Ultra-low chloride — no chloride build-up in recirculating systems
- Better nitrate use — calcium lets plants take up and metabolise nitrates
- Supports peak growth — improves plant vigour, starch metabolism and catalytic activity
- Economical — 2–3 ml per litre, used once a week
Calcium Shortages in Coco and Soft Water
Coco coir holds on to calcium and magnesium, and soft or reverse-osmosis water brings almost none of its own, so plants can run short even on a full-strength feed. Calcium does not move once it is in the leaf, so a shortage shows in the newest growth: distorted, scorched leaf tips, weak stems, poor root development and, in fruiting crops, blossom-end rot. A clean, soluble calcium top-up during peak growth keeps new tissue strong and nutrient uptake steady.
How to Use
- Soilless media and hydroponics: add 2–3 ml per litre of nutrient solution, once a week, right through the growing cycle
- Coco: the same 2–3 ml per litre each week — coco is where Grotek rate it a necessity
- Outdoor gardens: use 2 to 4 times a season; in fruit and speciality field crops, every 2 to 4 weeks through the growing season
- Mixing: add Vital to the water, never to another concentrate, and stir before the next product goes in
- Finish with EC and pH: check EC once everything is in the tank, then adjust pH last

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Vital contain magnesium?
No. Its guaranteed analysis is calcium only (5% Ca). That is the point of it — you can raise calcium without changing magnesium. If your plants need magnesium too, add it separately or use a cal-mag.
Can I use Vital with RO water?
Yes. Reverse-osmosis and soft water carry almost no calcium, so Vital is a simple way to put back a measured amount before the base nutrients go in.
Can I use it alongside a cal-mag supplement?
You can, but keep an eye on EC and the total calcium you are feeding. Most growers use Vital instead of a cal-mag when they want more calcium without more magnesium.
