Hold your nutrient reservoir at 18-20C, whatever the room is doing
Hailea HC-A water chillers are refrigerated coolers that hold a hydroponic reservoir at a set temperature in DWC, RDWC, NFT, drip and flood-and-drain systems. Four sizes cover tanks from 100 to 250 litres: the HC-100A, HC-130A, HC-150A and HC-250A. Every model uses R134a refrigerant, a corrosion-proof pure titanium evaporator and a digital microcomputer thermostat that reads to 0.1C and holds any setpoint between 6C and 30C. Warm nutrient carries less dissolved oxygen and invites root disease; a chiller is the fix that works when a LED or HID room heats the tank faster than the air can cool it. A pump and hose are not included - pair the 100A, 130A and 150A with the Hailea HX8810 and the 250A with the HX8820, both sold here.
Key Benefits
- Four sizes, one range - 100L, 130L, 150L and 250L reservoirs, with published working bands wider than the model name (see the specification)
- Pure titanium evaporator - nutrient solution never touches copper; fresh or salt water
- Digital thermostat with memory - set once; it returns to the setpoint after a power cut
- Compressor protection - automatic over-current cut-out stops motor burnout
- Quiet R134a compressor, LED display, 1 year warranty
- Flow set by the pump you fit - the chiller has no pump of its own, so match a pump to the model's circulation band
Warm reservoirs, low dissolved oxygen and sluggish roots
Once nutrient solution climbs past about 22C it holds markedly less dissolved oxygen, roots slow and pythium and root rot get their opening. Air conditioning the room is the expensive route; chilling the tank keeps the root zone in the 18-20C band independent of the air under the lights. Size by reservoir volume and go up a model if you are at the top of a band or the room runs hot.
How to Use
- Stand the chiller on a flat surface with clear air around the vents; it rejects heat into the room and must never be covered or laid on its side.
- Fit a pump and hose matched to the model - HX8810 for the 100A, 130A and 150A; HX8820 for the 250A - on the hose size listed below.
- Circulate water through the chiller first, then switch on. Never run it dry.
- Set the target, typically 18-20C for hydroponics.
- Clean the filter and condenser regularly to keep cooling efficient.
