A feed built for how orchids actually grow
Hesi OrchiVit is a liquid feed for orchids. Orchids are epiphytes - in the wild their roots sit in air and bark rather than soil, taking nutrition from rainwater and debris. A standard houseplant feed is far too strong and burns the fine root tips quickly.
Key Benefits
- Formulated for epiphytes - a low, balanced concentration matched to how orchids feed
- Gentle on aerial roots - orchid roots burn easily on a general-purpose feed
- Supports reflowering - the usual complaint is a plant that flowers once and never again
- Includes trace elements - bark-based media hold almost no reserve
- Simple to dose - one rate through the growing season
An orchid that flowers once and then sulks
Orchids in bark exhaust what little the medium holds within months, and the plant responds by keeping its leaves and dropping the flowers. It looks like a light or watering problem and is usually nutrition. Overfeeding, however, burns the roots outright.
How to Use
- Growing season: 1 ml per litre at every second watering
- Winter: reduce to monthly, or stop if the plant is resting
- Method: water through the pot and let it drain fully - never leave an orchid standing in feed
- After repotting: wait a month before resuming
- Media: bark, moss and other orchid mixes
