A pH probe reads through a thin glass bulb that has to stay hydrated to work. Left in air, or stored in plain water, that bulb dries out and the readings drift long before you notice anything is wrong. This 300ml potassium chloride (KCL) storage solution from Growth Technology fills the protective cap on your meter so the sensing tip stays fully immersed whenever the meter is not in use. It is the correct storage medium for standard pH probes, including Bluelab meters and pens, where poor storage can invalidate the manufacturer warranty.

The Slow Death of a Neglected pH Probe

Probes rarely fail outright. They drift. A meter that reads half a point out will have you correcting a reservoir that was already fine, and the plants pay for it through lockout and patchy uptake long before you suspect the meter. How to Use

• Rinse the probe in clean water after every set of readings.
• Part fill the protective cap with KCL storage solution.
• Refit the cap so the glass bulb sits fully immersed in the solution.
• Top up or refresh the solution whenever it runs low or looks dirty.
• Never store a probe dry, and never store it in reverse osmosis or deionised water.
