Let Temperature Set Your Mountain Air Fan's Speed
The Mountain Air Environmental Controller is a three-mode thermostatic fan controller for Mountain Air EC Whisper inline fans. It plugs into the fan's control port in place of the dial speed controller supplied with the fan, and a remote temperature sensor on a 4m lead reads the grow room so the controller can run the fan to a target between 18°C and 32°C. Use it as a simple manual speed dial, or let it slow the fan, or switch it off, when the room cools below your set point.

Temperature Swings Between Lights-On and Lights-Off
A fan left at one speed is a compromise: fast enough for the heat of the day or lights-on period, it over-cools the room at night and drags in cold air, while a speed set for the cool hours lets heat and humidity build when the lights come on. Thermostatic control keeps airflow matched to the conditions, so the grow room climate stays steadier, the fan runs slower and quieter for much of the time, and plants avoid the stress of big temperature swings.
How to Use
- Fit the fan first: install the EC Whisper fan with its ducting and filter as normal.
- Connect: unplug the supplied dial controller and plug the Environmental Controller into the fan's control port with its fitted lead and jack plug.
- Place the probe: position the temperature sensor where you want the temperature held, normally among the plant canopy, out of direct light.
- Choose a mode: Fan Speed for manual control, Cool-Temp Speed to slow the fan below the set temperature, or Cool-Temp Shutdown to stop it.
- Set the dials: set the target temperature and the speed, then fine-tune over a day or two as the room settles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why use this instead of the dial supplied with the fan?
The supplied dial only sets a fixed speed. This controller reads the room temperature and adjusts the fan to hold your target, or switches it off when the room is cool enough, so you are not resetting the dial between day and night.
Will it work with other brands of EC fan?
No. It is made for Mountain Air EC Whisper fans and is not suitable for Rhino, Phresh or Systemair EC fans. Mountain Air's older (pre-2024) Whisper fans are not compatible either.
Can one controller run more than one fan?
Yes. Mountain Air's 3.5mm splitter cables plug into each fan and male jumper cables link them, so one controller can daisy-chain several EC Whisper fans.
Where should the temperature probe go?
Wherever you want the temperature held, normally among the plant canopy and shaded from direct light. The 4m lead gives plenty of reach from the fan.
