Description
Serious Extraction Without the Roar, in Three Duct Sizes
Mountain Air's EC Whisper is a silenced inline fan for grow tents and grow rooms, made in 150mm (6"), 250mm (10") and 315mm (12") duct sizes. The Mountain Air EC Whisper Fan 315mm is an insulated, silenced inline fan that moves up to 2987 m³/h through 315mm (12") ducting. The 250mm moves up to 1808 m³/h and the compact 150mm up to 594 m³/h, with the same insulated housing and the same quiet, high-pressure design. An EC motor gives smooth, stepless speed control and uses only the power needed for the speed you set, while a dual impeller and turbine-style inlet build pressure inside the housing so airflow holds up on longer or more complex duct runs. Every size here is the UK-lead version, and this version comes with a 2m IEC power lead and UK plug, hanging points and a dial speed controller.
Key Benefits
- 2987 m³/h maximum airflow - enough for large grow rooms and multi-light setups. The 250mm delivers 1808 m³/h for mid-sized rooms and bigger tents, and the 150mm 594 m³/h for a single tent.
- Near-silent running - an insulated housing keeps noise down even at full speed. Mountain Air rate the 150mm at 37 dBA and the 250mm at 40.5 dBA flat out.
- EC efficiency - brushless motor draws only what the chosen speed needs, with less heat and wear. At full speed the 150mm uses 45W and the 250mm 135W.
- Stepless speed control - dial controller included, any speed from low to maximum.
- Pressure where it counts - dual impeller and turbine inlet handle carbon filters and long runs. The 250mm reaches 494 Pa of static pressure and the 150mm 472 Pa.
- Ready to plug in - 2m IEC lead with UK plug and built-in hanging points.
Heat and Humidity Building Up?
Big lights and dense canopies push temperature and humidity up fast, and an undersized or noisy fan forces a choice between climate and a quiet life. Stale, humid air slows growth and invites mould. A high-output EC fan clears the heat and moisture and can be turned down when you need less, so the grow room climate stays steady day and night. Choosing the right Whisper size means you can run it below full speed most of the time, which is quieter still and leaves headroom for hot spells.
How to Use
- Plan the run: fit the fan after a matching 315mm carbon filter and keep ducting as short and straight as practical. With the 250mm or 150mm fan, use a carbon filter and ducting of the same diameter.
- Mount it: hang from the fixing points, airflow arrow pointing out of the room.
- Connect: plug the IEC lead into the fan and a UK socket, then set speed on the dial controller.
- Tune it: run just fast enough to hold your target temperature and humidity.
- Extraction or intake: the Whisper works either way round, pulling stale air out through a filter or pushing fresh air in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which size do I need?
Start with your ducting and carbon filter diameter, then check the airflow. The 150mm (594 m³/h) suits a single tent, the 250mm (1808 m³/h) mid-sized rooms and larger tents, and the 315mm (2987 m³/h) large grow rooms with several lights. These are free-air maximums: a carbon filter, bends and long duct runs bring the real figure down, so leave some headroom.
How quiet is it?
Mountain Air rate the 150mm at 37 dBA and the 250mm at 40.5 dBA at full speed. The insulated housing does most of the work, and because the EC motor turns down smoothly you can run the fan below maximum for even quieter extraction. Acoustic ducting keeps the duct run as quiet as the fan.
What is the advantage of an EC motor over an AC fan?
An EC motor is a brushless DC motor controlled electronically. Its speed can be set anywhere from low to maximum rather than in fixed steps, it draws only the power that speed needs, and it runs smoother, quieter and cooler than an AC fan on a speed controller, which means less stress on the motor and a longer working life.
Can it run on a thermostat?
The supplied speed controller sets the fan speed by hand. For automatic control, Mountain Air make an Environmental Controller for the EC Whisper with two thermostat modes that slow the fan or switch it off when the room falls below a set temperature.
Can I use it for intake instead of extraction?
Yes. Mountain Air design the Whisper for air transfer or extraction, so it can pull air out through a carbon filter or push fresh air into the tent or room.
