Description

Eight-pot drip feeding along a 2.4 m grow tent

The Nutriculture Origin Large Wide Drip System, sold for years as the Wilma Large Wide 8, is a complete recirculating drip irrigation system for eight plants on a long, narrow 170 x 75 cm footprint. Eight square pots sit in moulded slots in the top trays above a single 120-litre nutrient tank, and a submersible pump switched by a timer feeds each pot through its own dripper. Choose 11-litre or 18-litre pots. The layout is made for a 2.4 x 1.2 m grow tent, where a row of hand-watered pots tends to end up with dry spots, waterlogged corners and patchy nutrient uptake. Here every plant gets the same measured feed little and often, the run-off drains back to the tank to be used again, and fresh air is drawn down through the medium after each feed, so roots stay moist, well oxygenated and growing hard. It takes clay pebbles, coco, soil or rockwool, and because each pot is independent you can move, turn or replace a plant without touching the rest.

What's Included

  • 120-litre nutrient tank
  • Top trays moulded with eight pot slots and a capped inspection hatch
  • Eight square pots in the size you choose (11 L or 18 L)
  • Submersible pump
  • Delivery system: distribution pipe with a nutrient mixing tap, and a drip line to every pot
  • Two sets of drippers: blue flood drippers and black arrow drippers

Key Benefits

  • One tank for eight plants: mix, check and top up in one place, usually every couple of days, instead of watering eight pots by hand
  • Any growing medium: clay pebbles, coco, soil or rockwool, with a dripper to suit each
  • Two dripper rates supplied: blue flood drippers at about 40 L/h for clay pebbles and black arrow drippers at 2 L/h for coco, soil and rockwool
  • Recirculating design: unused solution returns to the tank, so far less feed and water is wasted
  • Independent pots: lift, turn or swap one plant for even growth without disturbing the others
  • Anti-leak layout: the pots fit snugly into sized slots on trays that sit over the tank, so drips and run-off stay inside the system
  • Inspection hatch for checking the level and topping up without lifting a tray

How to Use

  • Set up: stand the tank level, fit the top trays, drop the pots into their slots, then fit the pump and run a drip line to each pot as the instructions show.
  • Choose the dripper: fit the blue flood drippers for clay pebbles and treat the system as fully recirculating; fit the black arrow drippers for coco, soil, mixed media or rockwool and feed for only a little run-off.
  • Mix the tank: fill with water and add your nutrients, then open the tap and run the pump for a couple of minutes so the whole tank is evenly mixed before you check EC and a pH of 5.5-6.2.
  • Set the timer: plug the pump into a timer (not included). Start young plants on 2 or 3 short feeds a day through the lights-on period and add feeds as they grow; clay pebbles need feeding more often than coco or soil.
  • Keep it flowing: use a drip-line cleaner such as House & Garden Drip Clean from the first fill to stop the drippers blocking, top up between changes and refresh the solution on your nutrient's schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Origin Large Wide fit my grow tent?

The system takes up 170 x 75 cm, which is what a 2.4 x 1.2 m tent is made for, with room left around it to reach every pot and the mixing tap. It is too long for a 1.5 m tent.

Should I choose 11-litre or 18-litre pots?

The 18-litre pots give each plant more root room and hold more moisture between feeds, which suits bigger, longer-growing plants. The 11-litre pots need less medium and suit smaller plants or quicker crops. The tank, trays and footprint are the same either way.

Can I use coco or soil instead of clay pebbles?

Yes. Fit the black arrow drippers, which deliver 2 L/h, and set the timer for small, frequent feeds with just a little run-off. The blue flood drippers are for free-draining clay pebbles.

What else do I need to run it?

A timer for the pump, your nutrients and growing medium, and a pH and EC meter to check the tank. A drip-line cleaner from day one keeps the drippers flowing.

Is the Origin the same as the Wilma system?

Yes. Nutriculture renamed its Wilma range Origin; the Origin Large Wide is the former Wilma Large Wide 8, with the same pots-on-a-tray-over-a-tank design.
