Description

High-pressure EC extraction in a compact steel fan

The Rhino Ultra Non-Silenced EC Fan is Rhino Ventilation's bare inline fan: an energy-efficient EC motor in a sealed steel body with mounting brackets built in. It keeps moving high volumes of air against the resistance of a carbon filter and ducting while drawing less power than an AC fan of similar output, and a soft start brings the motor up to speed gently every time it switches on. Seven sizes run from a 4" (100mm) fan at 275 m³/h to a 14" (355mm) fan at 4357 m³/h, each supplied with a speed controller for 0–100% adjustment. Where noise matters more than size and price, the Ultra range also comes foam-lined as the Rhino Ultra Silent EC Fan.

Key Benefits

  • EC efficiency: from 18 W on the 4" to 550 W on the 14", with lower running costs than AC fans.
  • Holds airflow under pressure: high airflow at higher static pressure, so it pulls cleanly through a carbon filter and ducting.
  • Speed controller included: smooth 0–100% control without the humming or buzzing of AC speed controllers.
  • Soft-start motor: ramps gently to the set speed, protecting the motor and avoiding power surges on start-up.
  • Sealed steel body: no air leaks, built-in brackets, and it can be mounted in any orientation without losing speed or pressure.
  • Seven sizes: 275 to 4357 m³/h, from a small tent to a large grow room.

Heat, humidity and stale air in the grow room

Lights and transpiring plants load a tent or room with heat and moisture every hour they run. Without steady extraction the temperature climbs, humidity rises towards the levels where mould and mildew take hold, and the air around the leaves runs short of CO₂, slowing growth. A correctly sized EC fan replaces that air continuously and keeps airflow moving through the canopy; paired with a thermostatic controller it speeds up on hot days and slows down when the room is cool, so you are not paying to run it flat out.

How to Use

  • Size it: room volume (L × W × H in metres) × 60 gives one air change a minute in m³/h; add 25–50% headroom for the carbon filter and ducting.
  • Mount it: fix the built-in brackets to a wall, joist or tent bar, in any orientation.
  • Connect it: pull air through the carbon filter into the fan and push it out through ducting, clamping each joint; keep duct runs short and straight.
  • Control it: set the speed with the supplied controller, or plug into a Rhino 1EC, 2EC or 2EC + RH controller to follow temperature and humidity automatically.
  • Balance it: keep intake slightly below extraction so the tent sits under gentle negative pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I choose the non-silenced or the silenced Rhino Ultra?

The non-silenced fan is the bare EC fan in a sealed steel body — smaller, lighter and cheaper. The Ultra Silent packs a steel casing with noise-reducing foam that Rhino says cuts noise by more than 50%; choose that where noise carries to living space.

Which carbon filter should I pair it with?

Rhino pairs each size with a Rhino Pro filter: 4" 100 x 300, 5" 125 x 300, 6" 150 x 600, 8" 200 x 600, 10" 250 x 1000, 12" 315 x 1000 and 14" 350 x 1000.

Can it run automatically from temperature?

Yes. Plug it into a Rhino 1EC, 2EC or 2EC + RH controller and it speeds up and slows down to hold your set temperature (and humidity on the RH model).

Why are the 4" and 5" so close in airflow?

Rhino rates the 100mm at 275 m³/h and the 125mm at 280 m³/h, so the choice between them comes down to whether your ducting and filter are 4" or 5".
