Description

Choose the Exact Base Temperature for Every Batch of Seeds and Cuttings

The Stewarts Large Variable Heated Propagator adds a remote thermostat to Stewart's large heated propagator, so you set the base heat yourself anywhere from 12°C to 28°C. A long-life 8 watt heater warms the compost evenly, the clear vented cover holds in humidity, and the 52 x 41.5 x 28 cm base takes a good batch of seed trays, pots or cuttings.

What's Included

  • Heated propagator base with remote thermostat and fitted UK plug
  • Clear vented propagator cover
  • Starter kit - 10 pots, 1 large seed tray and 2 small seed trays
  • Growing booklet on raising plants from seeds and cuttings

Key Benefits

  • Adjustable 12-28°C - match the heat to what you are growing rather than accepting one fixed setting
  • Remote thermostat dial - change the temperature without lifting the cover or disturbing the trays
  • Just 8 watts - less than an ordinary light bulb, about 0.19 kWh over a full 24 hours
  • Large 52 x 41.5 cm base with a clear cover and adjustable vents for light and humidity control
  • Ready to start - pots, seed trays and a fitted plug in the box

Why Do Seeds and Cuttings Stall in a Cold Room?

Most propagation failures come down to a cold root zone. On a windowsill or greenhouse bench the compost cools every night, so germination is slow and patchy and cuttings sit for weeks without rooting. Seeds and cuttings also want different warmth, and a thermostat holds each batch at its own temperature for faster, more even germination and stronger root development, so young plants cope better with transplant shock.

How to Use

  • Set up the base on a level surface in good light and fill the trays or pots with seed compost, plugs or cubes.
  • Set the thermostat to the temperature your seeds or cuttings need, between 12°C and 28°C, and let the base warm up before sowing sensitive seed.
  • Fit the cover with the vents mostly closed to hold humidity while seeds germinate and cuttings root.
  • Open the vents gradually as seedlings emerge or cuttings take, then lower the temperature or remove the cover to harden them off before potting on.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the standard Stewarts Large Heated Propagator?

The standard model has a fixed heater with no control. This one has a remote thermostat, so you choose the temperature between 12°C and 28°C, and it comes with a starter kit of pots and seed trays.

How much does it cost to run?

The heater is rated at 8 watts, so even running around the clock it uses about 0.19 kWh a day (8W x 24 hours).

What goes inside it?

Stewart's starter kit of 10 pots, one large and two small seed trays is in the box. It also takes peat plugs, propagation cubes or your own seed trays and pots, as long as they fit the 52 x 41.5 cm base.

Can I use it for cuttings as well as seeds?

Yes. Set a gentler temperature for cuttings, keep the vents closed while they root, and open them as new growth appears.
