Description
Root cuttings in mist and air, ready to plant on in days
The X-Stream Aeroponic Propagator roots cuttings in a misting chamber instead of a growing medium. Each cutting sits in a mesh pot held by a sponge clone collar, with its stem hanging into the reservoir, where a submersible pump drives a fine spray of water and nutrient around the base of the stem around the clock. With constant moisture, plenty of oxygen and nothing for new roots to push through, cuttings root fast and evenly – Global Air Supplies, who make the X-Stream range, quote cuttings ready to transplant in as little as 10 days. It comes complete in 40, 80 and 120 site versions, so it suits anything from a regular round of cuttings to a full propagation room.
What's Included
- Reservoir
- Clear propagator lid with large adjustable butterfly vents
- Submersible pump with stand, suction pads and sponge pre-filter
- H-shaped spray assembly with adjustable spray heads
- Mesh pots and sponge clone collars
- Support trays that hold the pots over the mist
Key Benefits
- Fast rooting – cuttings ready to transplant in as little as 10 days
- No growing medium needed, so no cubes to over-water and less risk of pests and disease
- Stronger, thicker roots that cut the risk of transplant shock
- Vented lid to hold humidity early on, then open gradually to harden plants off
- Check progress without disturbing plants, with easy access to the pump and tank
- Transplant into anything – soil, coco, rockwool or any hydroponic system
Slow, patchy rooting and transplant shock
Cuttings in cubes or plugs can sit for weeks while the medium stays too wet or dries out, stems soften at the base and the ones that do root arrive with a thin, uneven root system. That holds the whole batch back and makes transplant shock more likely. In the X-Stream every stem gets the same oxygen-rich mist, so root development is quick and even, roots are clean and visible, and the batch can be moved on together.
How to Use
- Slide each cutting into the slit of a sponge collar so at least 2cm of stem shows below it, then sit the collar in a mesh pot in the support tray.
- Fill the reservoir with plain water to just below the spray bars, fit the lid and run the pump continuously, 24 hours a day.
- Keep the water at 22-26°C (an optional submersible heater fixed to the bottom of the reservoir helps in a cold room) and the propagator itself at around 18-22°C in a spot with a steady temperature, out of direct sunlight.
- Light the cuttings with low-heat propagation lights sitting in the grooves along the lid.
- Add no nutrient until roots appear; then top the water back up to the spray bars and add a gentle feed if you wish.
- When roots show, open the vents a little more each day, then take the lid off for a couple of days to harden off before transplanting into a medium at room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need rockwool or rooting cubes?
No. The cuttings sit in sponge collars in mesh pots and root straight into the mist, so no cubes, plugs or other medium are needed.
Should the pump run all the time?
Yes. The maker's instructions are to switch the sprinkler on when the cuttings go in and run it continuously until they are ready to move on.
Can I heat the water?
Yes. A small submersible aquarium-style heater in the reservoir holds the water at the recommended 22-26°C and speeds rooting in a cold room.
When can I start feeding?
Run plain water until roots appear, then top up to the level of the spray bars and add nutrient at a gentle rate if you want to feed before transplanting.
Which size should I choose?
Choose by how many cuttings you take at a time. The 120 site needs about 114 x 62cm of space and two or four 90cm lights; the 40 site fits a 59 x 41cm shelf with two 45cm lights.
