Description

One self-watering tray, five ways to grow

The AutoPot Tray2Grow is a power-free watering tray that feeds plants from below, whatever you grow in it. Stand grow bags on it and capillary spikes draw water up into the bag; lay capillary matting and it waters small pots and seed trays; grow micro herbs in AutoPot's micro herb trays; or fit the fabric planter and grow root vegetables and vining crops in a mini allotment. An AQUAvalve5 in the end compartment lets in a shallow fill and closes until the plants have taken it up, so there is no flooding, no run-off and no daily watering – just connect it to a water butt or reservoir and it runs on gravity, with no pumps or power. Endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society and made in the UK from recycled plastics, it suits greenhouses, patios, balconies and indoor grow rooms alike. Choose the Complete System, the Slim Kit for your own pots and trays, the Fabric Planter to add a raised-bed style planter, or a spare Tray & Lid.

What's Included

  • Complete System: Tray2Grow tray and lid, AQUAvalve5, 2 x 9mm grommets, 1m of 9mm pipe, 16-9mm click-fit filter, 9mm golf filter, 9mm in-line tap, 9mm tee, 6mm overflow grommet, 3 circular spirit levels, 10 capillary spikes, capillary matting, root control sheet, 4 seed trays and slug-repellent copper tape
  • Slim Kit: the same tray, lid, valve, pipe, fittings, spirit levels, capillary matting and root control sheet – without the spikes, seed trays and copper tape
  • Fabric Planter with Poles: one collapsible 107.5 litre fabric planter, 93 x 33 x 35 cm, with support poles (assembly required)
  • Tray & Lid: Tray2Grow tray and lid with 9mm grommet, 6mm overflow grommet and 3 circular spirit levels (no valve)

Key Benefits

  • Five growing methods: grow bags, pots, seed trays, micro herbs or the fabric planter on one tray
  • Bottom-fed with an AQUAvalve5: plants take what they need, with no overwatering and no wasted water
  • No power or mains water: gravity-fed from a water butt or reservoir
  • Built-in spirit levels: three bubble levels in the rim make it easy to set the tray level – essential for the valve
  • Indoors or out: keep the overflow grommet in for indoor use, remove it outdoors so rain can drain
  • Air-pruning planter: the BPA-free, lead-free fabric planter stops root circling and washes clean between seasons

How to Use

  • Level the tray using the three spirit levels in the rim, then seat the AQUAvalve5 in its compartment.
  • Connect a reservoir – any water butt or tank with its outlet at least 15 cm above the valve – using the click-fit filter, pipe and in-line tap.
  • Choose your method: for pots, seed trays and the fabric planter, pre-soak the capillary matting, tuck it into the two outer channels and lay the root control sheet on top, copper face up; for grow bags, push the capillary spikes into the base of the tray and lay the bag on them so they pierce it and wick water up inside.
  • Open the tap once plants are watered in, then keep the reservoir topped up – the valve does the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Tray2Grow come with a water tank?

No - every version needs a reservoir, such as a water butt or a FlexiTank, with its outlet at least 15 cm above the valve. The Complete System and Slim Kit include the click-fit filter, pipe and tap to connect it.

What is the difference between the Complete System and the Slim Kit?

Both include the tray, lid, AQUAvalve5, pipe, fittings, spirit levels, capillary matting and root control sheet. The Complete System adds 10 capillary spikes for grow bags, 4 seed trays and copper tape to keep slugs off.

Can I use it outdoors?

Yes. Remove the 6mm overflow grommet outdoors so rainwater can drain from the tray; keep it fitted indoors.

Do I need the Fabric Planter?

Only if you want to grow root vegetables or larger crops in a deep bed on the tray. It sits on the capillary matting and is fed from below like everything else.
