Description

The pH 7.0 reference every calibration starts from

Bluelab pH 7.0 Calibration Solution is the neutral reference point for calibrating a pH pen, meter, monitor or controller probe. In a two-point pH calibration it always comes first: pH 7.0 sets the meter's zero point, and pH 4.0 (or pH 10.0) then sets the slope across the acidic or alkaline range. It suits every Bluelab pH product and any other meter that calibrates against a pH 7.0 buffer, and it is the solution to keep on the shelf if you look after several pens, monitors and controllers.

Key Benefits

  • Genuine Bluelab pH 7.0 reference – the first point of every two-point calibration
  • Quick accuracy check – a clean probe should read 7.0 before you trust it with a feed
  • For every Bluelab pH product – pens, Combo Meter, OnePen, Guardian Monitor and controller probes
  • Works with other brands that calibrate at pH 7.0
  • Protects your nutrient uptake by keeping the readings you adjust to honest

Is Your pH Meter Telling the Truth?

A pH probe ages from the day it is first used: the glass bulb slows and the reference junction is gradually used up, so the reading drifts while the display still looks perfectly believable. A meter that reads half a point out has you adding pH down to a reservoir that was already right, or leaving one where iron and phosphorus start to lock out, and the result is poor nutrient uptake, pale new growth and slower plants. Bluelab recommend cleaning and calibrating pH probes every 30 days, starting at pH 7.0 – and a calibration is only as good as the solution, so it must be fresh and uncontaminated every time.

How to Use

  • Clean the probe and rinse it in fresh tap water before calibrating
  • Pour a small amount of pH 7.0 into a clean container; never put the probe into the original container
  • Calibrate at pH 7.0 first, rinse, then calibrate at pH 4.0 (or pH 10.0 if you mostly measure above 7)
  • Discard the used solution after calibrating; never pour it back
  • Store sealed, somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight
  • Recalibrate every 30 days, after every clean, and whenever a reading looks wrong

Frequently Asked Questions

Why calibrate at pH 7.0 first?

pH 7.0 sets the meter's zero point. Bluelab's procedure always calibrates at 7.0 first, then at 4.0 (or 10.0) to set the slope.

Do I also need pH 4.0 solution?

For a full two-point calibration, yes. On its own, pH 7.0 is still useful as a quick check that a clean probe is reading true.

Can I reuse the solution?

No. Pour out only what you need, calibrate, then throw it away. Returning used solution or dipping the probe into the container contaminates what is left.
