Cultiwool cubes are the standard way to take a rooted plug and grow it on before it goes into slabs, pots or a hydroponic system. The range covers 3 inch and 4 inch cubes, each available with a small or large hole so you can match the cube to the plug you are using, plus a 150mm cube with a large hole — the block many growers still call a Hugo. A cube tray is also available to keep smaller cubes upright, evenly spaced and easy to move as a set.
That small cube tray is a ready-to-sow propagation tray of 150 stone wool starter cubes (25 x 25 x 40mm), made to drop straight into the small-hole blocks, and its larger partner holds 77 cubes of 35 x 35 x 40mm for the large-hole blocks. For bigger runs every cube and tray also comes in Cultiwool's full sealed box, and two sizes are sold by the box only: the 40mm starter cube for seeds and cuttings, and the 200mm (8 inch) Big Daddy Block, a plain block with no planting hole that a rooted smaller cube stands on, giving a large plant enough root room for the whole growing cycle. Cultiwool stone wool is made in Europe, RHP certified, inert and pathogen free, so the feed you give is the only feed the roots see.

Where Most Cuttings Go Wrong
The riskiest moment in propagation is not rooting, it is the move afterwards. Drop a plug into a hole that is too big and the roots sit in an air gap and stall; force it into one that is too small and you tear the new roots off. Matching hole size to plug size sounds trivial, but it is the difference between a batch that carries on growing without a check and one that sulks for a week.
Dry pockets are the other quiet problem. A block that only partly wets through leaves dry spots where salts build up, the EC inside the block goes out of balance and new roots steer around the dry patch. Cultiwool takes up water quickly and evenly from the first soak and re-wets easily after a dry-back, which keeps nutrient uptake even through the block and root development uniform from plant to plant, cutting the transplant shock that sets a batch back.
How to Use
- Soak cubes in pH-adjusted solution until fully saturated, then let them drain.
- Use a weak feed at around pH 5.5 for the soak, and give the 150mm and 200mm blocks longer to wet right through.
- Choose the hole size that matches your rooting plug or smaller cube.
- Drop the plug in so its top is level with the cube surface.
- Sit cubes in a tray to keep them upright and evenly watered.
- Stand a rooted 4 inch or 150mm cube on top of the Big Daddy Block once roots show at its base, and feed the large block by dripper.
- Water little and often, never letting the cube dry out completely.

Which hole size do I need?
Small-hole cubes take the 25mm starter cubes from the 150-cube tray or a similar 25mm plug; large-hole cubes take the 35mm cubes from the 77-cube tray or a larger plug. The 150mm block has a large hole, and the 200mm Big Daddy Block has none.
Do the cubes need soaking before use?
